Two angels wander through Cold War Berlin. They are visible only to children and pure-hearted people and cannot change the course of events; but they comfort all the lonely and depressed souls they know. After many centuries, one of them, unhappy with his immortality, wishes to become a human. His fascination for a young trapeze artist makes him yearn for a life where he can feel happiness and love.
