Subdued to the infernal rhythm of chain production at the factory where he works, a worker suffers a nervous breakdown until a series of extravagant incidents lead him to jail. When he leaves, he meets an orphan girl wanted by the police. The man and the girl help each other to face the difficulties of life and the oppressive cogs of industrialization.
