Three generations of the Mamiya family live under the same roof in Kamakura, in the midst of the postwar period. Noriko, the eldest sister, works as a secretary in Tokyo and is in no hurry to get married, despite her family's concern about her independent attitude. Society is changing and Noriko does not feel the need to enjoy a husband. She prefers to work and have fun with her friends. Her boss also insists that she gets married and recommends a friend of his, a prosperous businessman in his forties.
