A traveling theater troupe arrives in a coastal town in southern Japan. Its owner and lead actor, Komajuro, visits his former lover, Oyoshi, who runs a small restaurant in the town, and his illegitimate son, Kiyoshi, who works at the post office with the idea of saving for his university studies. Kiyoshi believes that Komajuro is his uncle. Komajuro's current girlfriend, the lead actress of the troupe, is not amused by his meeting with Oyoshi.
