Kihachi wanders with his two children through the streets of Tokyo, devastated by the economic depression of the 30's. His hard and precarious daily life consists of looking for work, but without success. The alternative is to get some money to feed the children and spend the night in shelters where she meets families suffering a situation similar to hers. Despite the difficulties of everyday life, the father and the two children share moments of humor and tenderness.
