Mamiya, Hirayama and Taguchi gather to celebrate the seventh anniversary of the death of a former college classmate, Miwa. His widow, Akiko, and his 24-year-old daughter, Ayako, are also present. During the celebration, the three friends conclude that the time has come for Akiko to remarry and decide to look for a suitable suitor for her. But first they have to get Ayako married, who is not willing to leave her mother alone.
