An elderly couple living in rural Japan travel to Tokyo to spend a few days with their sons. It has been a long time since they have seen them, but their visit ends up being a bother to them and their families. The elderly couple sadly realizes that they have become a bother to their own sons, who decide to send them to a spa after not being able to take care of them. Only their daughter-in-law Noriko, widow of one of their sons, shows them genuine affection.
