Sweden, late nineteenth century. Agnes is suffering from a terminal illness and receives a visit from her sisters, Maria and Karin, due the news of a imminent death. Gathered in the family mansion, the tensions, repressed feelings and emotional distance arise between the sisters, which contrast with the unconditional love that Agnes feels for her servant, Anna.
