The festival will come back to the neighbourhood of Gràcia the week of April 23rd, Book and Sant Jordi’s Day, one more year after the success of its fifth edition. This last edition was celebrated 100% in cinema rooms and counted with the visit of prominent international stars such as Johnny Depp or Isabelle Huppert, as well as Spanish figures such as directors Fernando Trueba, Fernando Colomo or Isabel Coixet and actors such as Karra Elejalde, Álex García or Clara Lago. These visits, among with the support of institutions and festival’s sponsors, meant a great media impact and audience success, with a 37% increase of the audience compared to the previous year. This fact is particularly relevant considering that the festival was celebrated according to all the safety measures and protocols derived from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The BCN FILM FEST accepts submissions for the Official Selection (in competition and out of competition) and the parallel sections Cinema amb Gràcia and Zona Oberta. The films selected for the Official Selection are adaptations of literary works, productions related to historical events or biopics about relevant personalities. The films in the Official Selection compete for the Best Film Award, the Best Actor Award, the Best Actress Award, the Best Script Award, the ACCEC Critics Award, the Festival Castell de Peralada Award for Best Music, and the Film Història Award.

On the other side, the section Cinema amb Gràcia compiles a selection of comedies from all over the world, preferably popular productions that aspire to the Audience Award for Best Comedy.

Finally, Zona Oberta is a section out of competition which includes films of special interest that, due to their characteristics, enrich the festival’s programme, although they don’t meet the necessary conditions to be included in the Official Selection.
