The non-competitive section Zona Oberta will count with the attendance of a true film figure: French Nouvelle Vague director Agnès Varda, the filmmaker responsible of master pieces like “Cleo from 5 to 7” (1962), "Without Roof or Law" (1985) o “The Gleaners & I” (2000). Varda will attend the festival to present her last project, the documentary film FACES PLACES, co-directed with the artist JR and nominated to the Oscar for Best Documentary 2018. Because of this nomination, Varda will visit Hollywood twice in less than six-months,after the Academy paid tribute to the French director in November with the Honorary Oscar for her whole career.
The retrospective to Ingmar Bergman in the section Imprescindibles pays tribute to this great filmmaker in the 100 anniversary of his birth.with the screening of five of his best films. This will represent the first chance for the new generations to enjoy the master pieces of the Swedisch director in re-mastered versions on big screens. This is an initiative under the Educacine label, that points the films with a special didactic value for school students.
