“A PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN”, WITH 5 NOMINATIONS TO THE OSCARS, WILL INAUGURATE THE BCN FILM FEST 2021 THE FRENCH COMEDY “LE FINE FLEUR” WITH CATHERINE FROT WILL CLOSE THE FESTIVAL ON SANT JORDI'S DAY
The Catalan co-production "Solo una vez" is incorporated into the Official Section, an adaptation by Marta Buchaca of her theatrical work, with Ariadna Gil, Álex García and Silvia Alonso.
One of the surprises of the season, 'A promising young woman', directed by Emerald Fennell (debut feature) and with 5 Oscars nominations including Best Film, will be opening the BCN FILM FEST 2021, which will celebrate its fifth edition from April 15th to 23rd. The film will be released in theaters, after passing through the Festival, on April 16th. Starring Carey Mulligan ('An Education', 'Drive', 'Shame'), the film offers a delicious new take on revenge. Mulligan plays a young woman with boundless cunning who lives a double nightlife. A meeting will give you the opportunity to correct the event that derailed her future.
'Le fine fleur', by Pierre Pinaud, a story about a rose grower on the verge of bankruptcy, will close the contest precisely on the day of the rose, Sant Jordi. Catherine Frot (Best Actress at the César del 2016 for 'Madame Marguerite') plays Eve, a woman who had created the world's most famous roses but is now bitter and on the brink of bankruptcy. Her assistant has a bright and crazy idea that could change their lives forever.
And finally, it will join the Official Section, with a total of 12 films in competition "Solo una vez", an adaptation by Marta Buchaca of her own theatrical work on gender violence. The film, directed by Guillermo Ríos Bordón, stars Ariadna Gil, Álex García and Silvia Alonso.
JURIES
Official jury
The BCN FILM FEST jury will be chaired by the versatile actor and film and theater director Mario Gas. Awarded in 1996 with the National Theater Prize of Catalonia and appointed Director of the Spanish Theater in 2004, as a film actor he has forged an extensive career with more than 30 films to his credit. He has worked with great directors such as Vicente Aranda, Bigas Luna, Berlanga or Ventura Pons, and recently we have seen him in “La Vampira de Barcelona”. As a dubbing actor he is the regular voice of actors like Ben Kingsley, Geoffrey Rush, Bill Nighy or John Malkovich.
Actress Laia Marull, with three Goyas, Best New Actress for her role in “Fugitivas”, Best Actress for “Te give you my eyes” and Best Supporting Actress for “Pa Negre”; and the director Jaume Balagueró, complete the jury of this fifth edition. Balagueró is one of the forerunners of Spanish horror cinema and is responsible for titles such as “Los sin nombre”, the “Rec” saga, “Fràgils”, “Mientras duermes” and “Way Down”, the last work that is pending release.
The official jury will be in charge of awarding the awards to: Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Music (Castell de Peralada Festival Award).
ACCEC Critics Jury
The critics and journalists of the Catalan Association of Cinematographic Critics and Writers (ACCEC) Albert Galera, Carles M. Agenjo and Alberto Richart will make up the jury that awards the Critics' Prize.
Film-History Jury
The Film-History Research Center of the University of Barcelona (UB) will award the Film-History Award (UB) to the Best Film for its historical values. The jury for this award will be made up of Juan Vaccaro Sánchez (Doctor in Contemporary History from the University of Barcelona) and Francesc Sánchez Barba (Doctor in Contemporary History from the University of Barcelona).
The V edition of the BCN FILM FESTIVAL will be held from April 15th to 23rd at Cines Verdi, Institut Français, CaixaForum and Casa Seat in Barcelona.
BCN FILM FESTIVAL will comply with all health and safety measures, as well as the maximum capacity established by law at the time of the festival.
