After surprising the world with his irreverent El perro andaluz, in 1930 Luis Buñuel premiered La edad de oro in Paris. But after a few days the authorities forbid the film. Buñuel's career is in danger. The director loses the favor of his patron, his attempts to work in the United States are unsuccessful and when in 1932 he is offered to film a documentary about the Extremaduran region of Las Hurdes, he has no money. A friend, the sculptor Ramón Acín, promises that he will pay the film if he wins the lottery. Months later, it happens and Acín keeps his word. It is the starting point of the shooting of this legendary documentary.
