During the spring of 1945 on the German island of Amrum, the end of World War II is in the air. In the absence of his father, twelve-year-old Nannig is forced to help his mother search for food so that his family can survive. The boy relies on his friendship with Hermann to support him through difficult times. However, as the long-awaitd peace arrives, unforeseen challenges emerge, compelling Nannig to chart his own course through the turbulent waters of the postwar era.
