Sections Edition 2019

Official Selection

The connection between Film, Literature and History constitutes the main theme of the festival and so the films preferred for the Official Selection are fundamentally literary adaptations, productions based on or related to historical events and film biopics about well-known and relevant historical figures. Films in the Official Selection will all be aimed at a wide audience and will compete for the Best Film Award, handed out by the official festival jury.

Cinema amb gràcia

A selection of comedies from around the world. Preferred films for this section are those which are aimed at a wide audience. The name of the section pays homage to the neighbourhood of Gracia in Barcelona, where the Verdi Cinemas and festival headquarters are located.

Zona Oberta

A no competitive section dedicated to films of special interest, which enrich the festival programme yet do not meet the topics of the Official Selection. An opportunity for other types of films, although always with the festival's general aim in mind.

Femení Plural, el nou cinema italià

A selection of the most important Italian films directed by female directors in the last years. A section that is born from the collaboration between the BCN FILM FEST and the Italian Institute.

Art al Cinema

A selection of quality documentaries, filmed in high definition, about some of the greatest painters in history. In collaboration with some of the world's most renowned museums and galleries, these productions offer a cinematographic immersion into the works of essential artists.

Imprescindibles

2026 Edition:

A HUNDRED YEARS OF CINEMA AT THE VERDI together with Movistar Plus+

A selection of classic, auteur films from throughout the ages, which offers an overview of a specific director's work, an artistic movement, an historic time period or national filmmaking.
