The connection between Film, Literature and History constitutes the main theme of the festival and so the films preferred for the Official Selection are fundamentally literary adaptations, productions based on or related to historical events and film biopics about well-known and relevant historical figures. Films in the Official Selection will all be aimed at a wide audience and will compete for the Best Film Award, handed out by the official festival jury.

In 1721 the Regent of France, wanting to seal the peace with Spain, offers to the Spanish King, a marriage between their respective heirs: Louis XV, age 11, and Maria Anna Victoria, the 4-year-old Spanish infant. The Regent of France also offers to marry his daughter, Mademoiselle de Montpensier, 12, to the Prince of Asturias, the 14-year-old heir apparent to the Spanish throne. Madrid responds enthusiastically to both proposals, and the ceremonies are promptly organized. The exchange of the princesses is to take place with great pomp on a small island, in the river bordering the two countries. Everything has been done to expect the best of the children, but nothing will proceed as planned.

On 27th June, 1976 four hijackers seized an Air France flight. The plane was on its way from Tel Aviv to Paris, the hijackers were two members of the PFLP (The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) and two German members of the left-wing extremist group, Revolutionary Cells. They held over a hundred hostages – mainly Israelis – for a whole week. Among other demands, they sought the release of forty imprisoned Palestinian terrorists and combatants. This film reconstructs what happened after the aircraft landed in Entebbe where the hijackers were supported by Ugandan dictator Idi Amin.
