Official Selection

The connection between Film, Literature and History constitutes the main theme of the festival and so the films preferred for the Official Selection are fundamentally literary adaptations, productions based on or related to historical events and film biopics about well-known and relevant historical figures. Films in the Official Selection will all be aimed at a wide audience and will compete for the Best Film Award, handed out by the official festival jury.

Cinema amb gràcia

A selection of comedies from around the world. Preferred films for this section are those which are aimed at a wide audience. The name of the section pays homage to the neighbourhood of Gracia in Barcelona, where the Verdi Cinemas and festival headquarters are located.

Zona Oberta

A no competitive section dedicated to films of special interest, which enrich the festival programme yet do not meet the topics of the Official Selection. An opportunity for other types of films, although always with the festival's general aim in mind.

Art al Cinema

A selection of quality documentaries, filmed in high definition, about some of the greatest painters in history. In collaboration with some of the world's most renowned museums and galleries, these productions offer a cinematographic immersion into the works of essential artists.

Asian Madness by CineAsia

A section dedicated to heterodox Asian genre cinema, in collaboration with CineAsia, which offers different cinematographic proposals that reflect the variety of tones with which cinema from the Asian giant is capable of expressing itself.

Nous Talents

Competition section showing short films made by the students of ESCAC, Blaquerna - Universitat Ramon Llull, FX Barcelona Film School, Universitat de Vic - Universitat Central de Catalunya, La Casa Del Cine, Bande À Part and Barcelona Cinema School & Actors Studio

Imprescindibles

A selection of classic, auteur films from throughout the ages, which offers an overview of a specific director's work, an artistic movement, an historic time period or national filmmaking.

Parallel events

A series of activities in parallel to the film screenings that enriches the BCN FILM FEST programme beyond the cinemas. Focused on literature and art, you will find cultural proposals in collaboration with Casa Seat, Institut Français, CaixaForum and La Vila del Llibre - La Perla 22.
