With Ibai Abad, director and scriptwriter of the film, Maria Codina, director of photography and Júlia Camarasa, art director. The film Escanyapobres, a free adaptation of the novel of the same name by Narcís Oller directed by Ibai Abad and starring Àlex Brendemühl and Mireia Vilapuig, will have its premiere at the eighth edition of the BCN Film Fest. Abad's second work updates a classic that he discovered in high school and that retains a message that is still relevant today: "With the financial crisis and the banks taking over thousands of houses, I realised that the theme of the novel, set in the late 19th century in a Europe immersed in a profound economic and social transformation, was more relevant today than ever". The adaptation has been a joint work with the director of photography Maria Codina and the art director Julia Camarasa. In this talk at La Perla 22, the three of them will share the keys to the script, which revises and strengthens the female characters in the novel, and to the filming on location in the Valencian Country and inland Catalonia, landscapes that have made it possible to reproduce in our country iconic elements of the collective imaginary associated with westerns, such as the endless wheat fields, the long lines of railway tracks leading to the wilderness or the caves and mines.
